In Bordeaux, Garopapilles is not one to be missed. So plan a lunch at Garopapilles Bordeaux, which is 3/4 course affair for Euro 35/45 available Tuesday to Friday or book a table for 5 course signature menu dinner for Euro 75. They open for dinner only on Thursday and Friday. My friend and I could plan only for a dinner and there we were at the appointed hour. They have a small sitting area with a beautiful inner courtyard. The dinner menu has an optional 3/4/5 wine pairing, we choose to go for the 3 course wine pairing. They have daily unique menu so be prepared to be surprised. Let them know if you have any allergy or preference and they will try and tailor the menu accordingly.
As I don’t eat beef or pork, the chef came up with a 5 course sea food menu.
As we sat down with a glass of champagne, we were presented with fresh olives and batter fried cauliflower and spinach as starters while we waited for the first course to be served.
Course 1 was red snapper with a white wine pairing. The skin was cooked perfectly crisp while the fish inside stayed soft and moist.
Course 2 was asparagus stuffed in sea mussels. The freshness of the dish has to be tasted to be believed.
Course 3 was the trout paired with another white wine. This was a little bland, maybe more so after the red snapper.
Course 4 was another standout – tuna with ravioli which was paired with a red wine.
Course 5 were two amazing desserts.
Overall the food was simple, straight from the heart and it felt good to eat even if there were no intricate hard to replicate techniques on display. This place will give you a Michelin star rated restaurant’s food experience.
